Approach · The Studio Nine Growth Lifecycle

The work behind the work.

A six-stage process we follow on every engagement — sized to the brief, but never skipped. It's how we make sure strategy stays connected to the work that ships, and the work that ships keeps compounding after launch.

02 / The Lifecycle

Six stages. One loop.

Tap a stage or use the arrow keys — the loop fills as you progress. No stage skipped, only the depth changes.

Stage 01 of 06

Discovery

Listening tour. Stakeholder interviews, market mapping, audit of what's working and what isn't.

The principle

Strategy is the product. Everything else is just the receipt.

A logo on its own can't change a market. A campaign on its own can't change a buyer. The thing that compounds is the strategic decision behind both — and whether the work in market is faithful to it.

That's the bet our process makes. We slow down where most agencies sprint (Discovery, Strategy) so we can move faster than most agencies in execution. The receipts are in the work.

01 / Listen

Discovery

Before a single creative decision, we spend time inside the business. Stakeholder interviews, customer conversations, market mapping, and an unflinching audit of what's working, what isn't, and what nobody's said out loud yet.

What we do

  • Founder & leadership interviews
  • Customer & non-customer conversations
  • Sales / CS call review
  • Competitor & category audit
  • Heuristic audit of brand & product
  • Analytics review (where applicable)

Deliverables

  • Discovery readout (deck + memo)
  • Stakeholder synthesis
  • Competitive positioning map
  • Top 10 problems & opportunities
  • Recommended scope for stage 02

"If you can't explain the business to a stranger by week two, you're not ready to design for it."

02 / Define

Strategy

The thinking that everything downstream depends on. We define who you're for, why you exist, what you stand against, and how the brand and business need to behave in the market to win.

What we do

  • Positioning & narrative architecture
  • Audience definition & segmentation
  • Value proposition & messaging frameworks
  • Brand strategy & personality
  • GTM & channel strategy
  • 12-month roadmap with priorities

Deliverables

  • Strategy document (the spine)
  • Messaging matrix by audience
  • Naming & nomenclature (if needed)
  • Brand brief for stage 03
  • Roadmap with KPIs & sequencing

"A strategy you can't recite at the bus stop isn't a strategy. It's a deck."

03 / Express

Creative

Strategy made visible. Identity systems, design languages, creative direction, and the visual rules that make every piece of work downstream feel inevitable rather than improvised.

What we do

  • Logo & identity system
  • Typography, color, motion principles
  • Photography & illustration direction
  • Voice & copy guidelines
  • Sonic identity (where it earns its place)
  • Brand guidelines & usage rules

Deliverables

  • Identity system + Figma kit
  • Brand guidelines (PDF + web)
  • Asset library (logos, type, photography)
  • Launch toolkit (templates & rules)
  • Stakeholder rollout plan

"Every brand decision is a sentence in an essay only the customer reads."

04 / Build

Execution

The work that ships into the market. Websites, campaigns, content, product surfaces — built on the strategy and identity, sequenced to ship inside real timelines, and accountable to outcomes.

What we do

  • Website & landing page builds
  • Performance & brand campaigns
  • Content systems (video, social, editorial)
  • Product UX & UI surfaces
  • Paid media production
  • Sales & pitch enablement

Deliverables

  • Site / app / campaign assets, live
  • Production-ready files & cutdowns
  • Channel-specific content plans
  • QA + launch checklist
  • Handover doc for in-house teams

"If the deck is gorgeous and the launch is late, we lost."

05 / Tune

Optimisation

Launch is the start, not the finish. We instrument the work, watch the data, and iterate — testing the assumptions strategy made and refining what's in market based on what the audience actually does.

What we do

  • Analytics & event instrumentation
  • Experimentation roadmap (A/B, MVT)
  • Conversion & funnel optimisation
  • Creative iteration on top performers
  • Quarterly performance reviews

Deliverables

  • Reporting dashboard (Looker / GA4)
  • Experiment log + readouts
  • Iteration backlog, prioritised
  • Quarterly strategy review deck

"Treat every campaign as a hypothesis. Most are."

06 / Evolve

Evolution

Brands aren't static. As the company grows, the market shifts, and audiences change, the strategy and creative system need to adapt. We help our partners stay sharp — without throwing away what's working.

What we do

  • Annual brand health checks
  • Positioning & narrative refresh
  • Identity extensions / sub-brands
  • Market & product launch support
  • Quarterly strategic reviews

Deliverables

  • Annual brand & market readout
  • Refresh / re-platforming plan
  • Updated guidelines & toolkits
  • Long-range roadmap (12–24 months)

"The best brands don't reinvent themselves. They keep proving themselves."

How we work together

Three engagement models.

We size the way we work to the brief — from a focused project to a long-term partnership.

01

Project

A defined scope with a clear shape: a rebrand, a website, a campaign, a launch. We move through the relevant stages of the Lifecycle and hand off a clean deliverable.

Duration
4–16 wks
Best for
Single outcome

02

Retainer

An embedded creative function. We act as your strategic and creative partner across multiple workstreams — campaigns, content, optimisation — on a predictable monthly rhythm.

Duration
6–24 mo
Best for
Ongoing momentum

03

Partnership

Long-horizon work for companies where strategy and brand are core to the business. We embed at leadership level, sit in on board reviews, and own a category of the company's ambition.

Duration
12+ mo
Best for
Whole-business work
