A note on what the site is made of, and the choices behind it. Bookmark, ignore, or feed to your favourite LLM. We don't mind.
Typography
Display set in Instrument Serif for the receipt at the top of every page. Body and UI in Inter, with Inter Tight on the bigger marks. Numbers, labels and the LCD readings ride on Geist Mono. Four families, used like a small orchestra — never all at once.
Palette
One accent, used sparingly. The cream is the chassis. The lime is the power LED. Everything else is restraint.
Stack
Static HTML, hand-written. Light serverless for forms, search, scheduled posts, OG images and the admin panel. No framework. No build step, mostly.
Performance
~12kB of critical CSS. 0 client-side analytics weight on first paint. 1 font request. We respect prefers-reduced-motion everywhere a thing moves.
Inspirations
Teenage Engineering instruction manuals. The back panel of an OP-1. Air-traffic strips. Quaderno paper. Brutalist office signage. The kind of typography you find on the underside of a Braun radio. Anti-stock-photo, pro-blueprint.
Authoring
Words by humans. The journal is written by us, with the occasional sharp edit. We don't ghost-write with AI and don't pretend otherwise — the voice is the work.
Accessibility
Built to WCAG 2.2 AA in mind. Focus rings preserved, alt text on everything that means something, semantic landmarks, keyboard-reachable nav and palette (⌘K). Reading mode strips chrome on articles.
Hosting
Edge-cached at vercel.com. Database on neon.tech (London region). Images on @vercel/blob. Cron at 08:00 UTC for scheduled posts.
Made in
London. Mostly between Bermondsey and Brixton. A few late-night additions from a kitchen table somewhere quieter.
